What size will my stall be?

Each stall will be at least 6ft long. Each seller will have an additional ½ metre in front of their stall to display items. In addition, a further small area is available to each seller alongside their stall to accommodate a clothes rail.

How does the large items area work?

Each seller can place 4 items in the large items area. Each item should have a description sheet (which will be provided) and a label which states your stall number and the items number (1 to 4).

The buyer will take the label to your stall, make payment and you will give them a pre written receipt, which will be supplied to you, they will then use this to collect the item.

What items should be placed in the large items area?

Buyers will go directly to the large items area to look for buggies, cots, moses baskets, high chairs, car seats, walkers, swings, bouncers, changing tables, large children bedroom/nursery furniture, medium/large bikes, large indoor/outdoor toys and equipment.

How early can I start setting up my stall before the market?

You have access to your stall 1 hour before the start of the market; we recommend you give yourself at least 1 hour to set up your stall in a presentable manner ready for selling. It is also a good idea to price your items at home to save time on the morning. Presentation is the key to selling, the more effort made to present your items the more likely they will sell.

What is the latest I can arrive to set up my stall?

Due to health and safety requirements for needing all aisles completely clear for opening time and our requirements of appropriately presented stalls, it is not possible to set up your stall less than half an hour before opening time.

What items do not sell very well at early new markets?

Second hand soft toys do not sell well because baby’s and kids tend to chew and bite on them and often they are not machine washable so are not able to be properly cleaned.

Items in poor condition do not sell at all and are not permitted to be displayed.

How do I price my items?

You choose your own prices and price your items at home before market day.

As a general guide:

  • Large, popular items in excellent conditions sell well between 20 -50% of the retail price, depending on the item.
  • Medium-sized items and toys sell well between 10-30% of the retail price, depending on the item.
  • Second-hand clothes do command less but sell well between 5-20% less of the retail price, depending o the item.
  • Many stall holders bundle clothing but others sell individual items. This is a personal preference.
